Time for 31 to shine
They’re saying he can’t cover.
Never could, if you listen to some of them.
Others insist he has let himself get too big to play safety in the NFL.
Never mind the Cowboys have the NFC’s top-ranked defense, surrendering just 296 yards per game.
Or the pass defense is ranked fourth in the NFC, allowing just 209 yards per game.
Or the fact that only one team in the NFC has held opposing quarterbacks to a lower passer rating.
And the 10 interceptions, second best in the conference, never enters the conversation, either.
Those are just numbers after all. They don’t mean anything. Roy Williams gives up touchdown passes. And everyone is just so tired of it.
And don’t pay any attention to the fact the defense has accomplished all of these things without its starting corners together in a single game. Or its most established veteran defensive presence, Greg Ellis on the field most of the time. Don’t bother the naysayers with facts.
Heck, one columnist went as far today as to say neither of the Cowboys safeties can cover anyone. This is a darned miracle we’re witnessing on the field, folks. Is Wade Phillips coaching this team or Criss Angel?
Well, I’m here to tell you this is ROY TIME. It’s Eagle’s week.
Like in October of 2003. The first year of the Parcells era. With 55 seconds left in the game, and the Eagles driving, and Roy blitzed through the middle of the line and sacked Donovan McNabb, forcing a fumble, ending the game, and preserving a 23-21 win.
And the T.O. horse collar in the Eagles Super Bowl season. Some say that tackle changed the Eagles fortunes that year. T.O. made it back for the Super Bowl, of course. But the offense was out of sync. And who was left to keep McNabb out of the refrigerator, with T.O. missing all that time? We know how that turned out.
And the interception he ran back for a score to win a game, in Philadelphia, silencing the derelicts and vagabonds, and the whole indictable group, who had so joyously burned Owens jerseys in effigy just hours earlier.
Yep, I’m here to tell you this is ROY WEEK. Let ‘em say what they want.
