Lisa Olson writes about the Jets thrashing

November 23, 2007 By: Trip Category: Dallas Cowboys

Lisa Olson of the New York Daily News says the Jets were nothing more than the appetizer for a bigger game next week.

“Here was the first question to Tony Romo, the Dallas quarterback who wasn’t anything special yesterday, but still managed to complete 21 of 28 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns: Would a victory against Green Bay be counted as a signature victory? The second question: Had he played well enough yesterday to beat the Packers? The third: something about being part of the only team in Dallas history to go 10-1. The fifth: something about why he hadn’t played as well as Brett Favre. Um, hello? What about the J-E-T-S? What are they, chopped liver?”

Only if 81% of the liver needs to be thrown out. (That’s 43 of 53 players if you’re keeping track.)

“It was almost comical watching Romo spar with reporters questioning his accuracy. It was almost heartwarming listening to Terrell Owens spin clichés and include the word “we” in nearly every sentence. “We’re trying to get that Super Bowl ring, that’s all I know,” said Owens, dripping humility after the Cowboys had methodically sliced through the Jets. “We made history today and that’s a steppingstone of where we need to go and I think we’re headed in the right direction.”

That’s what we’ve been trying to tell people about Owens, but they don’t want to listen. Instead, they compare him to murderers and criminals.

“Even though the Jets gave up three touchdowns in the first half alone, only 14 points were the defense’s fault, and seven of those might have flipped the other way had a Romo pass intended for Owens not bounced off Revis’ chest at the Cowboys’ 24-yard line. Excuse me, Mr. Owens? Name is Darrelle, nice to meet you.”

Revis is certainly one of the 10 keepers.

“Dallas made it 14-0 on its first series of the second quarter, Romo finding Jason Witten with a 25-yard TD pass after the tight end switched routes with Owens and slipped past linebacker Matt Chatham. It was around then that the cold rain turned to snow, as rare a sight at Texas Stadium as a cheerleader dressed in a parka.”

Olson, you might remember, is the reporter who filed sexual harassment against the New England Patriots in 1990 and won. She was a 26-year old reporter for The Boston Herald at the time, and had an unfortunate locker room situation with Zeke Mowatt. Turns out a little encouragement was all Zeke needed to expose himself in an “intimidating way.” Darker days for the Patriots. Darker days indeed. They weren’t the perfect, squeaky clean, genius-for-a-coach franchise back then, now were they.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Swimsuit Video

November 23, 2007 By: Trip Category: Dallas Cowboys

I’ve uploaded the cheerleader swimsuit video, which was shown yesterday on NFL Network. The video is about 45 minutes long.

The best way to watch it, is to right-click the file link, then SAVE TARGET AS to your desktop. The file will probably take about 30-40 minutes to download depending on your connection.

If you try to watch it by just clicking the link, it probably won’t work. And if it does, there will be drag in the video because the file size is so large. The file is an AVI file.

Friday News

November 23, 2007 By: Trip Category: Dallas Cowboys

Todd Archer documents the dominant win. Ten teams have started at least 10-1 in the past 10 years, and 3 of them won the Super Bowl.

David Moore wonders how Pittsburgh lost to these guys. I wondered that before yesterday. And actually, I thought the Jets defense played pretty well. It should have been worse.

Tim Cowlishaw points out that no quarterback, not Meredith, Staubach or Aikman, has taken the Cowboys to where Tony Romo has them right now. Romo is on the verge of breaking team records, and he still has five games to go.

Tony Romo

Albert Breer says the running game is back on track. And both runners performed well.

Calvin Watkins says the Cowboys offense shares the wealth but Terrell Owens is the most dangerous man on the field.

JJT says the Cowboys defense sent a warning to the Packers. And Terence Newman reminded us why he is a great player.

Tim MacMahon’s In The Know Kelly Clarkson seemed a little off, and one of her backup singers took a spill getting on stage. Phil Luckett was on the officiating crew. Darrelle Revis and Terrell Owens had a “nice conversation” after the game. Revis said he considered Owens comments disrespectul, but he wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it. The comments were disrespectful, and I’d like to hear what T.O. thinks about the young DB now. Revis was a highly rated prospect coming into the draft this year, and I thought he played Owens better yesterday than any corner has all year. He reminds me a little bit of Aaron Glenn. A much younger Aaron Glenn.

DMN Cowboys Notebook Greg Ellis is nearing a career high in sacks. Kickoff coverage was better. Romo tied Danny White for the franchise single-season TD pass record. Chris Canty is gaining confidence. Tank Johnson feels like he is getting in the groove. Kevin Burnett got his first career start, in a change of strategy, which put three corners on the field. Burnett is as good as any linebacker the Cowboys have, except of course number ninety four. Sam Hurd and Miles Austin had opportunities with Patrick Crayton out of the game. Isaiah Stanback also played in the fourth quarter. Ex-teammates Chris Canty and D’Brickashaw Ferguson squared off in this game. Patrick Watkins left the game with a slight concussion. Safety Abram Elam has started the past five games for the Jets.

Calvin Watkins Report Card All B’s, except for an A in pass defense.

Albert Breer Five plays that shaped the game.

Tim MacMahon takes a peek at the Pack, on the blog.

Initial Thoughts

November 22, 2007 By: clint Category: Dallas Cowboys

I have to say, that I really thought the offense didn’t get into any real rhythm until the second half. But we were still winning 21-3 at the half. It must mean that we have one stinking good team, when I am watching them thinking, “they sure don’t look like they are really clicking too well” and then have them win 34-3.

Yeah, we are good. I don’t know how this team would match up against the great teams in Cowboys’ history (like the 77, 92 teams and such), but I do know that not one of those teams was ever 10-1. Never. Record-wise, this is the best Cowboy’s team in history.

I thought the Packers looked pretty good, too. Early in the season they seemed to be getting some lucky breaks and everything just seemed to be falling their way. Now they are looking like a really good team. Next week should be a really tough game. But we are better than Green Bay and should win.

Now, about today’s game: Surely Newman will get some probowl hype now. He scored a TD on an interception. Canty was a beast, as was Ellis and Ware on defense. I thought both Barber and J. Jones ran the ball very well today. It took Romo a little while to get things going in the passing game, but he ended up with a really nice day. How could it not be nice when he tied the Cowboys record for TD passes in a season?

A decisive win.

Thursday News Thanksgiving Edition

Dallas News: Calvin Watkins writes about Greg Ellis’ injury last year and his comeback.

JJT says chill out. Eat some turkey. Smell the roses.

Barry Horn writes about the Garrett family. Jim and Jane Garrett have eight kids, ranging eight years differences in the ages. Judd Garrett is the youngest at 40 years old, and Jim III is the oldest at 48 years old.

Todd Archer Cowboys Notebook. Sam Hurd will likely start for Patrick Crayton. DWare needed a couple of IVs after the Washington game, but he is well-rested now. The Cowboys will wear white in the game today, saving the throwbacks for the Packers next week.

Sam Hurd

DMN Staff Picks Seven members are picking the Cowboys to cover the spread. JJT thinks the Cowboys will win 28-20.

Todd Archer Game Matchups.

Todd Archer Key Matchup. Julius Jones versus Thomas Jones.

Todd Archer Four Downs.

Albert Breer says Roger Goodell addressed the NFL Network issue in a conference call. And Breer gives the transcript of that call. No worries with DirecTV.

At least this guy isn’t on our team

November 21, 2007 By: clint Category: Dallas Cowboys

Some may whine about T.O. or whatever, saying all kinds of junk about him. Some may be true, most is probably overblown. But at least he isn’t like Joey Porter. Not only does he fight 4 on 1, he is dumb enough to do it on video… glad he is in Miami.

MacMahon agrees with me

November 21, 2007 By: Trip Category: Dallas Cowboys

Superman is gonna have a big day. Although, MacMahon takes it a step further than I did and says Sam is going to win the Galloping Gobbler. Am I wrong, or isn’t that a Fox Award? And isn’t this game on CBS? That would be quite a scoop. But, I’m not completely sure about this, and I’m not going to look it up tonight, so I guess we will just have to see tomorrow. And MacMahon has revised his prediction. He says the Cowboys will cover now. Good to have you back on board.

Edit - Actually it is a Fox Award and the game is on CBS, if I had read THE VERY FIRST COMMENT. Oh well. We know what he means. Sam is going to get the ridiculous CBS award.

Jets Preview

November 21, 2007 By: Trip Category: Dallas Cowboys

Everyone is toeing the company line. (I edited this sentence from “towing the line” to “toeing the line.” This is why, if you’re interested.) “The Jets are a good team.” “They run a very complex scheme.” “A couple of plays haven’t gone their way, or the record could be much better.” “There are some good football players over there.”

And the media has bought it. Tim MacMahon doesn’t believe the Cowboys will cover the two-score spread. Albert Breer picked them to cover but he is very concerned about it. When we see all of the selections tomorrow, I’m sure a lot of them will be picking the Jets to take this thing down to the wire.

It’s not going to happen. The Jets are bad football team. They are going to try and establish the run. It is what they are best at, yet they are not even an average team running the ball (3.7 yds/att). Time of possession favors Jets opponents by almost 5 minutes per game on average, which is a huge number. Stopping the run is what the Cowboys are best at, and they will not have a problem shutting down this Jets ground attack.
